Respect for the knowledge and rights of indigenous peoples and members of local communities, by taking into account relevant international obligations, national circumstances and laws, and noting that the United Nations General Assembly has adopted the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

Cancun Safeguard C, in the context of Viet Nam, means that the understanding, experience and initiatives of ethnic minorities and of local communities, built up over a long period of time and transmitted from generation to generation, and the rights of ethnic minorities and local communities as defined in the Constitution and other relevant PLRs, are to be respected throughout the implementation of REDD+ actions under the National REDD+ Programme and Provincial REDD+ Action Plans.
